Honours and Awards
I was the first woman nominated as a member of the Auckland Camera Club (Auckland Photographic Society) and awarded annual the medal (of merit) in 1926, only 5 years after women were first allowed to join the club. My study of a Maori woman entitled “Georgina” appeared in the American Annual of Photography in 1930.
I was also a frequent winner of national photographic prizes.
Personal Interests
Playing the violin with my friend Edith Whitelaw (First violin in the Auckland Choral Society).
Personal Life
My early years were spent at a spacious property on Khyber Pass Road, Mount Eden. We lived there until my father’s death in 1899 after which I returned from school and the family moved to Remuera. I was born the seventh of ten siblings and lived my whole life with my parents and unmarried sisters Florence and Hilda.
I chose to avoid marriage and due to our comfortable family situation I was never required to work a day job. The love of my life is my photography which I approach as a dedicated practitioner, travelling New Zealand and internationally practicing my art.
